MxMo XXXVI: Hard Drinks for Hard Times — The French 75

February 16, 2009

It’s Mixology Monday again, and this month’s host is the inimitable Matthew Rowley. This month’s theme is mighty timely: Hard Drinks for Hard Times. Our task this month is to: [M]ix, consume, and write about an alcoholic drink you’ve made that resonates with the current economic turndown and explain how it addresses the theme. One […]

Jerry Thomas Night at Vessel

February 11, 2009

My passion for cocktails and mixology was in part inspired by From Absinthe Cocktail to Whiskey Smash, a Salute in Stories and Drinks to “Professor” Jerry Thomas by David Wondrich. In discussing Jerry Thomas, America’s first celebrity bartender, Wondrich also covers some of the most important basics in creating great cocktails. I’m not alone in […]

My Journey with the Pisco Sour

February 6, 2009

I can trace my love of mixology through the evolution of my standards for homemade pisco sours. Like many Americans, I first discovered this delicious quaff on a trip to Peru. I had one every chance I could get, and picked up a bottle of acholado pisco at the duty free, along with some packets […]

I’ve mentioned Thursday Drink Night at the Mixoloseum Bar a few times. But what really goes on? Now you have a chance to see! Our recent TDN sponsored by Mata Hari absinthe had a special live event. Happy Holidays from Two at the Most

December 25, 2008

Here in Western Washington, we’re getting a new layer of crisp white snow, making for a rare white Christmas. I hope you’re having a wonderful holiday season, however you celebrate it! We will be joined by Leblon representatives, whom we can bombard with questions about their product, and Brazil’s unique liquor in […]

Black River Sidecar and Thursday Drink Night

September 22, 2008

This past Thursday Drink Night at the Mixoloseum was a resounding success. And not just because my submission, the Black River Sidecar, was named best off-the-cuff drink of the night. But I’m thrilled at the wonderful write-up Rick did over at Kaiser Penguin, including a great photo. Black River Sidecar 1 1/2 oz cognac 3/4 […]

Black Tot Day

July 31, 2008

Attention! It was on this day in 1970 that the British Royal Navy discontinued the centuries old tradition of providing a daily rum ration, or “tot,” to its sailors. In rememberance of Black Tot Day, let us all raise a glass of grog: Grog 2 ounces water 1 ounce Jamaican rum (Pusser’s) 1/2 ounce lime […]

[Redmond] Wine Tastings

March 6, 2008

Turns out Malt & Vine, a nice, if small, beer and wine shop here in Redmond, has weekly tastings. Beers on Friday night, wines on Saturday afternoon. They’re a little low on whites right now, but plan to be putting in more coolers and bringing more in as the weather warms. Seem like good folk.
